I feel like I’m still recovering from the epic sold-out Goddesscon 2011 aka SHOWGIRLS at the Castro Theatre. Over 1,300 screaming fans and 100 lap-dancers filled the historic movie palace for an evening of lap thrusting, volcano dancing, and high high glamour! It was an incredibly fun time and I’m already looking forward to next year’s insanity. Speaking of next year’s Showgirls event at the Castro Theatre, we’ve launched a campaign to encourage Elizabeth Berkley herself to attend Goddesscon 2012. It will be her birthday in July and I would love it if she’d come to SF and allow us to worship her in the flesh! Do you know what the worst part of roller-blading is? Having to tell your parents you’re gay. But for my dear ghoul-friend Mercy Fuque, the worst part was actually falling on her face in Golden Gate Park, shattering her leg and wrist and subsequently spending time in the hospital enduring surgeries and constipation. She’s a mess hunty! Rumor has it that Kegel Kater either a) pushed her or b) spilt some pearls in her path. The two “friends” were out for an afternoon of roller-blading when Mercy, sadly ate shit in public landing herself with a summer full of hospitals and doctor’s bills. As many of you know, when “one of us” is down for the count, we do what we can to help each other out and rally for a fellow queen. So, I’m hoping loads of you will come on out and attend the Lawd Have Mercy benefit this Saturday afternoon and help raise money for a great queen who could really use our help. This weekend I’m hoping you’ll support the work of one of my dearest ghoul-friends Raya Light. She and Todd Pickering co-created an incredible Award Winning play called The Unbearable Lightness Of Raya a few years back that’s gotten a 2011 re-vamp and runs this weekend for three nights only. Raya Light is quite frankly, one of the most fucked up people I’ve ever met and her mental illness really benefits from this sort of showbiz exploitation. The play follows Raya’s rise to infamy from her demented childhood all the way to modern day. It’s a great show and it plays Friday, Saturday, & Sunday at 8pm at Counterpulse. Details are below.Also, after this show, there will be a staged reading of a new show that premieres this October called Halloween: The Ballad Of Michele Myers and my horror dork alter-ego Joshua Grannell has been invited to narrate the reading. For the very first-time ever, we are mounting our most rocking pre-show ever onstage at The Castro when we present PURPLE RAINwith the legendary purple mistress icon herself APOLLONIA IN-PERSON! I’ve been working on this for months, and it’s so exciting to finally be able to announce it to you guys! The one and only sex shooter, Apollonia has agreed to come and join us for an over-the-top celebration of all things Purple Rain. As always, our show will feature a giant performance tribute spectacular with returning guest stars Putanesca in a triple-threat role of unstoppable glamour, as well as, Martiny as “the dove”. My lord, this has been a big week of preparation. My Underground co-host Sam Sharkey and I began rehearsing our rock n’ roll act with the band Citizen Midnight for next week’s gigantic SF Underground Short Film Festival and it’s going to be a metal number so bitchin’ that Satan himself could feasibly be summoned at some point during our performance. We’ll hit the stage at 7:30pm next Friday and the fun will not stop all night long. We have an epic evening of entertainment planned for your enjoyment featuring the work of over twenty local short filmmakers, as well as, the world premiere of the whacky and wild new feature film Devious, Inc. directed by xuXe and co-starring some Midnight Mass favorites like Fauxnique and Precious Moments (left). The shorts program is so huge that it’s going to feature an intermission, as well as, interactive performance elements throughout the night. OK, so I have to tell you that my “alter-ego” or whatever is coming out and making some upcoming appearances and while he’s kinda boring compared to yours truly, I thought some of you may be interested, if for no other reason than the events themselves are going to be wicked fun for everyone. Joshua Grannell (said alter-ego) joins Kevin Allison (The State), Will Durst (CNN), Adam Savage (Mythbusters), Mary Van Note (Comedy Darling), and more this Friday night for Kevin Allison’s show RISK! It’s a story-telling show where folks come and share true tales they never before imagined they’d tell in public.
