Martiny Downsize was born in a small, Pennsylvania coal mining town. Because of her extra- ordinarily small stature, she was often put to work in the mines, where she acted as a sort of canary. It was there, deep in the earth's sooty crevasses, that little Martiny learned to apply her makeup. Using a crude mix of coal powder and Yoo-Hoo, Martiny conducted her first experiments in the mascara arts. Some say these were her most successful applications.

Eventually the child labor people caught up with Pennsylvania and Mar was out of a job. Her startling looks proved troublesome at school, where jealous little girls called her such names as "ugly" and "flawed." Soon she found herself aboard a boxcar, having a jumped a train in Altoona. During her time on the rails, she took her fashion cues from the friendly hobos who asked for nothing in return except money. It was also during this tumultuous era that Mar discovered her gift of psychic vision after correctly predicting that Mrs. Garret would leave The Facts of Life. She continues to cultivate her uncanny psychic abilities.      Martiny soon tired of a life in constant motion and fixed to get herself a real job. After a disastrous stint as a hand model, the good people at Barbizon set Mar up in the sidekick racket. It was work to which she was perfectly suited. Peaches Christ discovered Martiny when the wee wonder was side-kicking a Jerry Lewis telethon. The rest as they say is history!
