MORE ABOUT EVIL!
Interested? Here’s the story of All About Evil, an over-the-top black comedy set in the world of a classic old horror movie– and a love letter to classic movie houses everywhere!
The evil begins when Deborah (Natasha Lyonne), a mousy librarian, inherits her father’s beloved but failing old movie house, The Victoria Theatre. In order to save the family business she discovers her inner serial killer when she starts turning out a series of grisly short films. Deborah quickly cultivates a rabid legion of San Franciscan gore fans who help catapult her to new-found local celebrity. Even her biggest fan, high school student Steven (Thomas Dekker), doesn’t realize yet that the murders in the movies are all too real.
By embracing her inner-most “star quality”, Deborah’s rise to fame as a cult filmmaker and leading lady is inspired by the b-movies her father loved so much, and the literary classics she studied as a librarian.
She dedicates herself to realizing her father’s faith in her once-undiscovered talents and models her new public identity after the great Hollywood divas she grew up watching on the family’s very own silver screen. She becomes a local film hero and accidental cult leader almost overnight. Her success as a filmmaker demands she assemble a small crew to keep business booming!
Deborah, and the theatre’s deliciously creepy old projectionist and newly appointed cameraman, Mr. Twigs (Jack Donner), search for like-minded misfits to help make the controversial short films. Her loyal new filmmaking family embrace Deborah as their manager, their agent, their publicist and their directress, never questioning the crime and carnage it creates along the way.
Back at high school, super-fan Steven is the number one suspect in the case of a missing teenage girl, last seen with Steven at The Victoria Theatre. When Steven’s good friend Judy sets out to meet Deborah for an interview and doesn’t come back, Steven begins to uncover the truth behind the “magic” of Deborah’s movies…
Will anyone survive Deborah’s climactic feature film debut, ‘Gore and Peace?’ Find out in ALL ABOUT EVIL!
CREATING THE EVIL
Meet the people who’ve worked to bring Evil to a screen near you.
The film stars Natasha Lyonne (Slums of Beverly Hills, But I’m a Cheerleader!) as Deborah, a movie theatre proprietress who discovers murder is the path to finding her inner-most “star quality.” But part of the fun of ALL ABOUT EVIL is that the murders are a family affair– with the team completed with Jack Donner, Jade and Nikita Ramsey, and Noah Segan (Brick, Deadgirl).
Rounding out the cast are Thomas Dekker (Nightmare on Elm Street, Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles) as Steven, Deborah’s #1 fan; Cassandra Peterson (better known as Elvira) as Steven’s mother; and veteran cult film actress and John Waters superstar Mink Stole (Desperate Living, Pink Flamingos) in a particularly gruesome role!
ALL ABOUT EVIL is the brainchild of Director Joshua Grannell, best known by his notorious drag persona: midnight movie impresario “Peaches Christ,” the hostess of the wildly popular Midnight Mass movie series– the largest and most successful midnight movie event after The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The ALL ABOUT EVIL production team is a mix of underground creative collaborators from the world of Midnight Mass, including costume makers, wig designers, graphic artists and the film’s composer, Vinsantos; as well as industry professionals: Sundance Award winning director of photography Tom Richmond (Slums Of Beverly Hills, Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist), producer Darren Stein (writer / director of Jawbreaker), producer Brian Benson (Haiku Tunnel, Howl), and producer Debbie Brubaker (La Mission, Dopamine).
ALL ABOUT EVIL is a loving homage to the cult films Joshua loves so much, as well as a celebration of surviving neighborhood movie houses. The movie suggests we should go to any length to save these old theatres… any length whatsoever.
